Get up, stand up! December 2025 update!

In order to take a stand, you need to make a stand. Who’s the first to get off their duff, and who’s the next up, right beside them? All too often our Environmental faiths have followed the same destructive paths as religious wars— attempting to worship green deities, yet ultimately producing competing warships (land trusts, riparian conservancies, habitat preserves, ..). We end up standing on one leg, protecting the crown jewel while neglecting our urban and rural battlefields. We aim to conquer instead of concur, distilling regional socio-economic complexities instead of instilling locally-grown confidence and competence.

Green Leadership must avoid fierce civility and chronic niceness. When something is planted, something else is supplanted. Keep Conservation Leadership on terra firma by vigorously championing local enviro challenges and cultivating a field of green leaders, serving throughout our vast and varied environmental field.

Stay thirsty!

As usual, some parting humor by our neighbor ThickShakespeare:

Ponce de Leon: “Dear Sire, can you kindly direct me towards the Fountain of Vermouth?”

Villager: (Chuckling): ‘You must be referring to the elusive Fountain of Youth’..

Ponce: “Many thanks, but it was Youth that drove me to drink in the first place!”

August 2025

‘Every strike brings me closer to the next home run.’  George Herman Ruth

Our world is chock full of cruel, merciless and ruthless people. Show compassion towards the misery of others, and utilize your leadership wisely. Don’t be afraid to step up to the plate and swing away! ‘Da more Ruth, ‘da betta!

Whatever happens, stay thirsty!    Www.tonic-water.org

Newest humor from our resident contributor Thickshakespear:

”Sir, why is it that you have placed a mushroom in your cereal bowl of Wheaties?”

’Well madam, you should know that it is the breakfast of champignons..!’

More Ruth, please!

Scars & Stripes

Black & White can be quite colorful, perhaps even dazzling. Colorful, mindful Enviro Leaders are full of it! Grasp, reach, stretch, extend.. brush off the rockets red glare of ignorance, and display your independence with vivid green leadership fireworks! Whatever happens, stay thirsty!     Www.tonic-water.org

Summertime greetings from our pal Thickshakespear:

Dear Sir, what was it that the dyslexic worm was heard saying to that voracious largemouth bass?’

”Well madam, what I recall the creature saying was ‘Oh carp!!’

Wreck tangles and Try angles—November 2025 update

Willfully ignorant leaders may be obviously obtuse, so let us try another angle… there’s no need to be right from the get-go, but at least show some sensitivity along with a true, acute desire towards environmental intensity! Aim not for forced work, but an ultimate workforce!!

Game of Throwns

We are scared to death of throwing caution to the wind. We tremble at the mere thought of doing anything unscripted or unauthorized. We ignore the dynamic perplexity that humans are made of, switch to auto pilot whenever possible, and unintentionally bake bodies of tumult. It’s due time to bring on more ado about something!

Lookin' for Soul Food

Being an environmental leader is more complicated than tossing a salad or flinging toppings onto a pizza. Yet at last count, a shocking 32% of environmental and conservation organizations are content with their current conventional approach to program implementation—a ‘burger and fries’ approach that is not only mass-produced but delivers your sub-standard automated response. For the other 68%, there is still hope, but I hope it’s more than putting cheese on that burger!

The Circuit Breaker—Power outages from our Futility Company…     May 2025

Where’s the control switch within your team connections? Are surges in your ideas and energy commonly protected or turned off? Who is the powerful one, and how do we fuse spurts of ingenuity throughout our transmission lines?

Cooperatives exist in order to meet local energy needs by pooling resources, delineating service areas and by being ‘utilitarian’—effective and pragmatic functioning of a service community. Unlike the warlords in a Mad Max energy wasteland, we try to promote sensibility and practicality via community kinetic conveyance.

It boils down to a choice between conduits and ‘can-do-its’… the executioner within you is waiting…   www.tonic-water.org                                                        Whatever happens, stay thirsty!

What does our dear friend Thickshakespeare have to share this week:

"My dear lady, what was it that our roadside fish monger was heard saying to that starving street magician?"

'Well Sir, I truly believe I heard him clamor “..pick a cod, any cod…”

Things you should never have to pay for:

*Cheap sunglasses*Toothpicks*Covid masks*Pens                                                *Lip balm*Paper Clips*Mistakes

A quick caveat about this last one-- if you’re not making mistakes, then perhaps you’re already paying the ultimate price of timidity. Enviro Leaders can’t afford to dawdle—expect to flip, flop and flounder, or at least vacillate until you build up the courage to fail at least once per day. Recall your days’ falters while brushing your teeth at night and smile while foaming from the mouth. Consider it to be your mental flossing of menial miscues--Gargle, swish, spit and then repeat. Whatever happens, stay thirsty!               www.tonic-water.org

At long last, April humor from our uncle Thickshakespear:

Magellan the Explorer sailed up the Oregonian coast and sought respite at the Tourist Information office.

"Can you direct me towards the Gulf of Mexico?" , he asks.

The Information desk lady scratches her head and politely responds,..

"Hmmm.. Can you be a bit more Pacific??"

Many a servant leader has left a significant and positive impression in his or her community—Rachel Carson, Aldo Leopold, John Muir, Al Gore and Wangari Maathai all come to mind this Independence Month. Yet as green lantern leaders, our mission is not to fill the shoes of our predecessors, but to take the next step and strides on that path forward. Emancipation from mental slavery starts with courage and continues with encouragement of others.

Lastly, some funny fireworks from our Chief Humorist Thickshake Spear:

Customer in the footwear store:

“Sir, the number of flies in here is atrocious! Why don’t you shoo them away?”

Sales Rep: ‘Unfortunately, Madam, that won’t work. They will just return tomorrow for a different style and color..’
